Researchers discover a new “artificial cell” that can communicate with other cells in the body
A recent discovery showed a great leap in the study of artificial cells, they can now communicate with existing cells inside the human body.
A new artificial cell
A research collaboration from the University of Alberta and the Unversity of Trento in Italy has led to the discovery of a new artificial cell. This new discovery showcases a very rare feature that presents a wide array of medical breakthroughs in the near future. Scientists believe that it is a huge advancement in the study of living cells that can work wonders in pharmaceuticals.
This new artificial cell has the ability to communicate with the cells inside the human body and synthesize adaptively to the existing illness of the host. Its ability to adapt and manipulate cells makes therapeutic healing much more efficient and precise. The cell serves as a receptor of the changes happening inside the human body, once it detects abnormal changes in the body, it sends out a signal to other cells through the release of protein enzymes. The protein expressed by the artificial cells will influence other cells to react and cater to the needs of the body.
According to one of its founding scientists, Professor Sheref Mansy, these newly discovered cells can efficiently cater to rapid changes in the human body by optimizing natural cells, and without the need of applying new drug medications every now and then. The process comes out more naturally, thus, limiting the intake of artificial drug medication that can cause harm to the human body if taken in long periods of time.
This is the first successful discovery that makes use of man-made cells to communicate and control natural cells inside a human body. Mansy’s team is looking forward to discovering more about man-made cells and its application on the medical field.
